Microsoft Surface Book SX3-00001 Preview

Ever since the latest Microsoft Event, the big talk has been the new Microsoft Surface Book (ad). This is the first time that Microsoft has made their own laptop, although this really is a 2-in-1 that builds on the success of the Surface line of tablets. Microsoft also announced the Surface Pro 4 at their event.

Looking at the Specs for the Surface Book (ad), this certainly appears to be a laptop. It has a big 9.14 x 12.30 inch screen, the keyboard is attached (although it can un-attach), the laptop has the excellent i5 or i7 processors, a solid state hard drive, optional NVIDIA GeForce graphics card, and it weighs in at almost 3.5 pounds.

The device also includes an 8.0 megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus with 1080p HD video recording, 5.0 megapixel front-facing camera, Front and Rear facing Dual Microphones, Front-facing stereo speakers with Dolby audio, Ambient Light Sensor, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, and Magnetometer, TPM chip for enterprise security, Two full-size USB 3.0 ports, Full-size SD card reader, Surface Connect, Headset jack, Mini DisplayPort, Surface Pen and power supply.

The Surface Book (ad) definitely looks like it was built to take on the MacBook. It also likely will appeal to those users that weren’t quite sure about using a Surface tablet as their main device. This is much more like a laptop which should make it easier to transition to. Microsoft also seems to be making a big push to get those advanced creative users to switch to their device. They are highly promoting Adobe Photoshop, video editing, and a free CAD app with the Surface Book.
