Several media outlets are reporting that Halo 5: Guardians (ad) is now king of the UK sales charts.
This achievement comes just one week after the game’s October 27th release. The news is perhaps surprising as the competition includes many multi-platform games, like Grand Theft Auto V, FIFA 16, and Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, while Halo 5 is Xbox only.
As we previously reported, the reviews for Halo 5: Guardians are looking generally very positive. Players have been especially impressed with how smooth multiplayer works this time around, which is mainly down to the new Microsoft Azure servers.
Microsoft’s excellent ‘Hunt the Truth’ marketing campaign for the game, which included a very interesting blog, amazing murals, and some awesome live action trailers, also no doubt have played a big part in attracting gamers to the latest Halo installment.
We also learned that Halo 5: Guardians is selling at a rate of 50% more than the last Halo game, Halo: The Master Chief Collection (ad). As MCC went on to sell around 5 million copies, if Guardians maintains the current rate, it could be on track for 7.5 million units moved, or more.
Microsoft has confirmed that Halo 5: Guardians is the biggest launch in the Halo series’ history, with over $400 million in sales (roughly 6,670,000 units sold) in the first week. That number compares very favorably to Halo 3, which did $300 million in sales in its first week. Microsoft went on to say that Halo is also the fastest selling Xbox One exclusive game to date, and it also is currently the most played game on Xbox Live.
