The ASUS Zenbook UX303UB (ad) really has some very impressive specs. The QHD display is gorgeous. The new processor is top-of-the-line. 12 GB of RAM is huge and, combined with the Nvidia graphics card, make this device usable for gaming. We all know I love solid state drives as they allow your device to run quietly and not overheat as much, and the Zenbook has a huge one at 512 GB. The device has a very nice, solid case and three USB 3.0 ports.
At just 3.2 pounds, this is fairly light for such a robust laptop, although not as light as some on the market. The battery life of 8 hours is good and will probably get you through a work or school day, but it isn’t as good as some like the Apple MacBook, Air, and Pro or the Dell XPS 13. There is no optical drive, which is becoming the norm.
Using the ASUS Zenbook UX303UB
Probably the first thing I notice about the ASUS Zenbook UX303UB (ad) is the design of the device itself. This isn’t your typical laptop with a cheap, black plastic bottom and fake metal or hard plastic top. The whole body is done in a metal with a nice finish. I like the smokey brown color, although I would prefer to have more than one option. The keyboard keys are very solid. I like that they are black as they will probably stay looking nice longer. The keyboard is backlit.
Having the bevel around the screen be black really helps when looking at the screen and kind of makes the screen pop even more than it already does. The QHD display is one of the best displays out there and looks great. As the device has a Nvidia GT940M graphics card, you can run games on here which also look and run amazing.
The device runs quiet as it has a solid state drive instead of a hard drive. It can get a bit hot if you are doing lots of gaming, so I would recommend putting it on a hard surface when gaming. The power brick is quite large, but shouldn’t deter you from using it or carrying it with you. Some people have complained about the screen being too reflective, but I didn’t have that problem as I was indoors in a space not lit that well.
The ASUS Zenbook UX303UB (ad) is a very impressive laptop that has all the top new technology. Based on the specs, I think this device has to be looked at as competing with the Dell XPS series and Apple MacBook series.
If you care a lot about battery life, you would opt for either Dell XPS (15 hours) or an Apple MacBook (14 hours), Air (18 hours), or Pro (15 hours). The Zenbook is also slightly heavier at 3.2 lbs. The XPS 13 is 2.6 lbs, the MacBook is 1.98 lbs, and the MacBook Air is 2.92 lbs. The Zenbook does beat the MacBook pro, which is 3.5 lbs. The ASUS Zenbook probably has a slightly better display than the Macs and also has a better graphics card then any of those devices which makes it more of a viable gaming option.
It really is a give and take when looking at the Asus Zenbook. If you want a great laptop and aren’t particular about battery or weight, and also want a great display and to be able to game on it, then the Zenbook might be a great option for you.
I have no problem recommending the Asus Zenbook UX303UB (ad).
